Gowda started his public life in his 7th standard itself, having been inspired by Sundaresh and Nanjunda Swamy of the Raita Sangha. Just after completing his 9th standard, Gowda got into an argument with a police inspector in Arasikere over the arrangement of a Tamil orchestra, was arrested and locked up for two days. This incident led to problems at home due to which Gowda left home and came to Mumbai. In Mumbai Gowda worked in an ice-cream factory. After 6 years, he returned to Bangalore to join the South India Computer Ltd, a hardware assembly company in Koramangala, and from there moved to the Vysya Bank and from there to start Pushpa Garments and put his hand into financing and the Srimata Audio Cassette company.
